Earlier this summer, was a large family gathering in NY for my cousin's wedding. The 7 hour drive to get there, brought out some interesting facets of my family, such as singing every show tune imaginable and then some, or reading the book "Killer Angels" about the Civil War aloud for a good portion. All in all, it was worth it, to be able to see and talk with family that I hardly get the chance to be with. It was a lovely day with enough of a breeze to be comfortable outside. Unfortunately the following day was rainy and cloudy, not quite the picturesque wedding we all had hoped for. The beauty in the ceremony for me was in the blessings passed down from each grandfather and father of the groom.
I felt proud to be a part of my family. Sometimes, I take for granted my spiritual heritage. I have been so blessed to be surrounded by a family that lives their lives for Jesus. Not only have my parents given me a foundation of faith, but my grandparents as well, and my aunts, uncles, and cousins. Many Ecuadorians that I met were first generation Christians. They face many obstacles that I never encountered. Our flesh wants to make a scale to measure how we stand to others. I am not higher on the scale because I have grown up in a Christian home. I am only accountable for more of my actions because I have known the truth longer.
