A beautiful shot of my street in Shell, Ecuador with two rainbows in the sky. I have always loved rainbows and even believed once that there was a pot of gold at the end. I recall reading a story once about a bear who went in search for the pot of gold and although he failed to uncover the treasure I always harbored a faith that there indeed was a treasure at the end. I think the author of that long ago children's story that I read missed something. After much disappointment as a child, I came to the conclusion that the treasure is not at the bottom of the rainbow. As I have faced reality after many years of searching and I found the flaw. It is at the top. We were looking in the wrong direction all along. Look up to the heavens, among the clouds, among the unreachable heighth of the sky. There is our treasure. God.
So many times I get caught up with looking for a measley "pot of gold" at the end that I miss the splendor and richness of God. I settle for a nugget (Sunday sermons, financial security, comfort zone...) when God paves streets with gold (personal relationship with Him, blessings, unconditional love...). Let's remember where to look... look up. There is our treasure.
