Meet Danny. He’s 15 years old and lives in Santa Ana, a
small town about 45 minutes by public bus from the center of the city of Cuenca
(where we have YL Club).
Like many kids, he comes from a dysfunctional family. His parents were never married and live separately. He has one brother, Luis, who first
invited him to YL club.
Danny suffered a lot because of the
separation of his parents and was also unable to study for a year at school
because of a lack of resources. He was very aggressive not only with his family members but with his
friends. He began to steal because he
wanted to have what his friends had.
He came to YL Cuenca several months ago, through his brother. He came looking for true
friends and to have fun. In club he
found what he was looking for and little by little he started forming part of
the group, smiling all the time, and you could see the happiness he felt to be
there. His brother Luis that had been
coming to YL for over a year said he had never see his brother have so much fun
and this was special for him.
We invited him to outreach camp in August (YL Ecuador
2017) and without a doubt, he got very excited because he imagined it would be
like the YL clubs on Saturdays in Cuenca. He didn’t have the economic resources to pay
for camp but he helped in all of the activities we organized to raise money
because he desired to go. Through that
he was able to collect the money he needed and went to camp.
In the camp he said in reality it was “the best
week of his life” for all the activities that took place. He also mentioned that in the camp there were
special moments and two in particular.
The first was the cabin time where they talked about Jesus. Second, were the 15 minutes of silence where
he said, “I could talk with God and He forgave everything and I accepted Jesus
in my heart and I was challenged to live a life like Jesus”. He knows that problems will come but he also
knows that he has an unconditional friend who will always be with him, Jesus.
Currently, he is attending the bible studies
that we have on Mondays and he wants to learn more. He also wants to
help his friends that need to know Jesus.
To end, it is a true miracle what Jesus did in the life of Danny. He says “I want to serve God until the day I
die.”
