My English Class

Here are a few pictures of some of my regular students in my English class. (Anita, Marcela, Genesis, and Steeven). It's been challenging on so many different levels to teach them English. I think I have learned more English grammar by helping the adults in my second class than I ever studied in school! As I often need to explain things in Spanish in order to get to the English lesson, it has been a very humbling experience as the kids correct my Spanish every chance they get! I have come to see my mistakes as blessings though because they are able to see that it is hard to learn a second language and that EVERYONE makes mistakes (even their teacher)! They have incorporated several loving nicknames for me, besides the typical "Teacher" they enjoy calling me an "old maid" ever since I taught them the card game one day.

God has been teaching me about how everything is for His glory.
"For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen."
Romans 11:36

Sometimes I struggle to remember that while teaching is my "job" it is not what defines me. First, I am a child of God, and teaching is only the means through which God is using me. More than just the correct grammatical structure for sentences, I need to teach them about God's love. If we just open our eyes to the beauty around us, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands." Psalm 19:1
In my college writing class, the professor often stresses the importance of correct citations and the need to give credit where credit is due. Yet, how often do I fail to give credit or honor to God? He deserves the glory, He is worthy of our praise.
