My e-mail is still being strange...this was originally meant to be an e-mail to those who like to hear about my crazy adventures!
High adventure...it just never stops!
Today I went with my Ecuadorian friends Ivan and Pato, along with
American Eileen to a place where they told us we would do "extreme sports"
and we should wear clothing to get wet in. So not knowing exactly what we
were getting into (no surpise there) we headed off to the nearby town of
Mera around 8:00 AM. We walked along this trail through jungle brush for
awhile and then came to a spot with a zipline and then did a little
repelling (which is where you are attached with a rope and you kind of
"repel" off the side to get down). We had good equipment (helmets and
all...) and fairly good instructions...I think the instructions were
probably good but it's the fact that they are in spanish which presents the
problem. Anyway, so then we kept hiking along the trail and we came to a
waterfall (I have no idea how tall it was...it seemed pretty tall) and we
climbed down that (two by two). It took a little work but I think I got the
hang of it...it's nice because then you end in the water! Then we also went
down the same place but instead of in a sort of sitting position, we went
face down, fishing the rope behind us, when you watch someone, it looks like
they are just walking right down the side! That took ALOT more work to do
and I'm not sure if I ever got it down...that was probably the scariest
thing I tried but I'm alive to tell the tale...so it's all good! Nothing
like a good story to worry my parents with! I also climbed back up the
waterfall using the rope/harness...that was fun! Much easier than going
down face first! We finished up with one more place to climb down, which
was tricky but not too bad, it also went into water...you could also jump
from the top into the water (which I did!!!) It was a really fun time! I
of course got some scrapes and bruises, TONS of bug bites but it was
definately worth it. It was great to hang out with my friends and try
something new at the same time.
This is just a reminder that I need your prayers!
