This is Jane and her daughter, Andrea.
You may remember that name because I`ve written a few blog posts about her before.  We met when I first started being a part of YL in Ecuador.  She is a young, single, teenage mother.  I continue to pray for her and now her new daughter to walk in a deeper relationship with Christ.  She met and ¨fell in love¨with a boy, who not shortly after Andrea was born, left.  I cannot imagine the hurt and the despair of a broken relationship paired with the responsibility of raising a child.  Yet, this is the story of many girls today.

Ecuador has the highest teen pregnancy rate in South America: 81 births per 1,000 females between the ages of 15 and 19. Seventeen percent of girls in that age group have at least one child. And the number is on the rise: according to official figures, the number of births to adolescents in that age group rose from 31,053 in 2004 to 45,708 in 2011.

Over the summer, we took a break from weekly clubs and focused on Camp.  After camp, we started up our weekly club and Jane has been a faithful participant (and of course Andrea, too!).
I was happy to hear that she is continuing to study, working her way through high school classes at night.  I was even happier to see her on Sunday at church with her daughter!
I don`t know if the father of the baby will ever come back into her life or help take responsibility.  I know it has left a scar on her heart.  I pray that she would come to know the heavenly Father who loves her and find her sense of worth in Him.  I don´t know how her story will end, but I praise God that she has found in YL a community of encouragement.  I trust God`s word to be true.
Deuteronomy 4:28 (NIV)
¨But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.¨
