Coming back from an encouraging time in Colombia and the not so distant YL Camp where many kids made a decision to follow Christ, it seemed unfair that something would come and in a sense "knock us down" again.  A leader shared with us their decision to step down from ministry abruptly and we found ourselves picking up the pieces.  I find that God constantly keeps us moving and reminding us that the job is never done.

He would not let them rest in success or in failure.  No matter what they did, there was always more to do and to learn.  He rejoiced in their success, but nothing less than world conquest was his goal, and to that end he always superintended their efforts.

So, October 6th we headed to Cuenca on the grueling 9-hour bus ride, full of twists and turns.  While the "'getting there" is not so fun, I always enjoy my time in Cuenca.  We stayed with the Leeks, who lovingly host us each time and make us feel like part of the family.  Often when we travel to other areas for YL, there are a few scheduled meetings and the rest of the time is open to whatever comes our way.  I'm always amazed at how God fills those times to his purposes.  This time in Cuenca, Ivan go to attend a men's breakfast (in English!) and we took a spontaneous trip to a lake with YL leaders and some kids!
Adventures in YL...be prepared for anything!
I got to hang out with these two beautiful ladies!
One of our scheduled meetings was with the main leaders and their mentors.  It was a beautiful coming together of hearts and minds as we spoke into each other's lives.  I am so thankful to see how God has raised up adults in Cuenca who truly love and care about these leaders.  Prayer warriors willing to come alongside and lift these leaders up in truth and love.  I am reminded again, that we are meant to live in community with one another.  It's in that community that we are able to celebrate the successes and also confront our mistakes.

Over the years I have truly reaped the benefits of having a mentor and a community of friends who came alongside me.  While the transition to Ecuador has caused many changed in that community I am very thankful for those, who despite the long distance continue to speak into my life with truth and love.  I am also thankful that there is always more to learn and that God is opening my eyes and heart to new friendships and opportunities of community here.

"Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.  Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails."
