As if one adventure wasn't enough, I embarked on yet another journey with some other missionaries and two Ecuadorians. Our goal was to go to the town of Mindo, which is maybe an hour and a half west of Quito, the capital. A typical bus ride to Quito takes 5 hours, and so we planned to leave early Friday morning, get to Quito and make our way on to Mindo in someone's truck. This is where the title comes in: expect the unexpected.
Our bus ride ended up taking 10 hours! We got stuck waiting because of a landslide right before the town of Banos. When we finally did arrive in Mindo (which was beautiful) we stopped to get some lunch. Those unfortunate enough to order the sandwiches had bread full of ants. While this is not that absurd, the crazy part was the woman's response to their complaint. She said that she would toast the bread...and the ants will die. Expect the unexpected! And even though she toasted the bread, the ants did not die, and finally she got them new sandwiches and gave them a slight discount. Oh, the joyous adventure of living in Ecuador! This past week we studied contentment for our weekly Bible study. As I reflect on some of the times that I have been less than content in situations I am challenged to learn to be content in all things.
