Summer is flying by!
We had a bit of a rough start in June.  Ivan left with other staff for a conference in Guatemala and the rest of us got hit with sickness.  It was one of the longest weeks of my life.  We had a week together as a family and then Ivan was traveling once again, this time to Peru.  Ivan had an amazing opportunity to join a group that hiked part of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu!  It's been a dream of his to see Machu Picchu so it was a real gift for him to go and he got to meet some really great people along the way.

July brought some changes as our administrator took on a new position at a different company and stepped down from YL.  As the former administrator, I have stepped back in and am once again helping in that way.  We are praying about whether this is short-term or long-term solution and if not, who could be the right fit.  As we plan to send our niece and nephew to in-person school, this will allow me to have more time in the mornings to dedicate to homeschooling Benjamin and fulfilling administrative tasks.  I'm looking forward to some more structure in our days and space to have one-on-one with Benjamin.  I've also connected with a great group of other North American women who homeschool in the valley and we're excited about doing another school year together with our kids.

We had a unique opportunity to join a mission team from Ohio that partners with our local church in Quito.  They decided to spend their week of missions in Puyo and we were able to help connect them to friends of ours who have a church there.  It was a beautiful crashing together of my different worlds and friendships.  We spent the week with them, helping to guide them in the area, translating, and giving them a small taste of what we do with Young Life in Ecuador.

Since our big outreach camp planned for August has now been pushed to October, we are thinking about how we can have some family fun before the new school year begins.  We are also planning another trip stateside this winter and will hopefully have some more concrete dates and places soon!  Benji really wants to play in some snow this time around!

Three things I'm thinking about as I head into another school year:
(taken from Teaching from Rest by Sarah Mackenzie)
1.  Minds are worth cultivating
2.  The world is worth learning about
3.  People are worth loving

When you're sick but still want to do math

Rachel, I have missed catching up on your family thru your blog!
Glad I could spend time tonight! God lead us to homeschool in 1985. It was inconvenient & overwhelming but I knew Jesus was working in me as well as them. Now as they are married & parenting , I am humbled by the spiritual maturity we see in them ( their kids have been in public some & homeschooling)
I know you & Ivan also heard from Jesus about this! Now as the 2 go to in person school & you & Ben transition& your other responsibilities along side your husband (Praying for you all !! )
Ps: it was so good to hear of how your dad & the others served recently!! There is a video
