Today the government raised the gas prices.  The reaction has been a nation-wide protest by public and private transportation.  In response to this protest, school has been cancelled for the day.  Ivan was unable to leave our street in the car because people have blocked the roads with burning tires.  In other parts of Quito, they are throwing things at those who dare to try to pass.  Fortunately, with the motorcycle he was able to slide by and get to his physical therapy appointment and make a needed visit to the accountant.  Perhaps, now that it has started to rain the people in the streets will calm down and allow passage.

While we now need to change some of our plans, I am grateful.  A week ago we had fellow YL staff and volunteers from Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, and the United States with us.  It's an inconvenience today but it would have been much more alarming for our visitors a week ago.  Today, I'm not worrying about picking up or dropping off anyone at the airport.  We aren't planning to tour the historic streets of Quito, which are now full of angry protesters.  God allowed us to have a peaceful week for our Regional Conference.  Thank you Lord!

After the busyness of camps in August and the end of our Amazon Region conference, it's nice to have a day "stuck" at home.  A little bit of forced down time, as I regroup.  In a few weeks, we will be headed to the states.  So many details and logistics to figure out for that time but I am 100% looking forward to it.  You can check out this link to see where we will be and when!  I will try to update as things change or are confirmed.  Find a slot that's free and let's get together!
